I inherited some Frank Swift Chase landscapes through my great aunt Margaret Underwood Davis-- a surf scene, the Adirondaks, birch groves, etc. She was instrumental in bringing Chase to Nantucket to teach in the summers and the wonderful work she did under his guidance hangs all over our house there. - Tamsen Merrill

Fascinating! My dad inherited two Chase landscapes - a Winter scene and a classic view overlooking the Hudson Valley. Chase was his great-uncle.

In our immediate family, we were more conscious of Frank's brother, Edward L. Chase. It wasn't until a cousin of mine did some research that I learned about Frank's connections to Woodstock and Nantucket.

After I posted this blog, I was contacted by a gentleman from the AAN who has provided some very good info on Frank's career in Nantucket. He sent me an exhibition catalog from a 2005 show and several photos of Frank that I'd never seen. I'm really impressed by what I've learned so far about Nantucket.

Reviewing the catalog for The Art Colony on Nantucket, it acknowledges, "It was Davis' invitation to Chase in 1920 that prompted his first visit."

I own this painting. It is titled "Sketch for Autumn Lights". Autumn Lights the larger painting won the Peabody Prise in Chicago. This is also noted on the back in Pencil.

we inherited a painting of Nantucket Harbor by Frank Swift Chase - from our grandmother’s estate and we are looking to sell it. Do you have any recommendations of reputable galleries/buyers that buy his work?
